The Ann Storck Center provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of sports for persons with mental retardation. The Center needs volunteers to serve as coaches and general games volunteers. Minimum age: 16 years old

Best Buddies enhance the lives of people with developmental disabilities through a one-to-one friendship and integrated employment. Best Buddies needs volunteers to help with clerical work, filing, answering phones, and organizing and implementing events. Minimum age is 14 years old.

Serving more than 13,000 children each year, our purpose is to inspire and enable young people, ages 7-18, especially those from challenging circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. Boys and Girls Club offers a wide range of volunteer opportunities, year round, every day of the year. Teen volunteers, at least 16 years old, can assist at special public events, and help with bulk mailings or other office work during weekdays or some Saturday mornings. Groups of volunteers are welcome for special projects, mass mailings, fundraisers and other projects.

Breakthrough’s innovative Students Teaching Students model partners middle-school students with college and high school students who serve as teachers, role models and mentors, providing real-life examples that it’s ‘cool to be smart’. Teaching with Breakthrough is a volunteer experience, but living expenses stipends are provided, along with housing and AmeriCorps Education Awards at select locations. Give back to your community while expanding your cultural horizons! Volunteers usher for performances at the Broward Center, Parker Playhouse and the Miniaci Performing Arts Center (at NSU) in the evenings and on weekends. Our mission is to enable young people to acquire knowledge, develop life skills, and form attitudes that help them become productive and contributing members of society. We need volunteer teens to assist clubs and leaders, and to work as summer day camp assistants. Minimum age: 16 years old

Volunteers must commit to work one shift a month for a minimum of two months. For the Fort Lauderdale shelter, volunteers can work Monday through Saturday. For the Pompano shelter, volunteers can work Wednesday through Sunday and customize their time to fit their needs. Opportunities include Adoption Assistants, Greeters and Escorts, and Lost and Found Associates that help to reunite lost pets with their owners; and at the Fort Lauderdale shelter only - Veterinary Assistants.

Volunteer Opportunities may include: assisting with programs and special events; preparing crafts; shelving books and other materials; and tutoring younger children.
